Compatibility:

The xStation can be installed into these original PlayStation series of consoles:

  • SCPH-100x
  • SCPH-3xxx
  • SCPH-5xxx

This xStation comes with both a PU-8 and PU-18 PCB, which will make it compatible with the models below.

100X Quick Solder Board v1a (PU-8) Compatibility:

  • Most SCPH-1001*
  • Most SCPH-1002*
  • Most SCPH-3000*
  • Most SCPH-3500*
  • All SCPH-5000

* Some of the PlayStation models use an early version of the PU-8, which unfortunately is not compatible. To determine which PU-8 version you have you must open up your PS1 and look for the number on the board. An early version would be X-XXX-XXX-11, and would be incompatible. If there is another number instead of 11 ast the end (21, 22, 23 or 41) it is compatible (the X's are also numbers, they are just not relevant).

550X Quick Solder Board v1a (PU-18) Compatibility:

  • All SCPH-5001
  • All SCPH-5500
  • All SCPH-5501
  • All SCPH-5502
  • All SCPH-5503
  • All SCPH-5552

A nice overview of the different models and motherboards can be found in this wiki.

More information as well as detailed installation instructions can be found in the official wiki.

    XStation

Super simple install if you`re good with a nice station! Use a nice J tip and take your time on the pins and you`ll have this done in under 10 minutes. Way better than psio and the Creator is much better!

    Just works

There is soldering involved with this of course, but once you`re done, it is rock solid, it just works...

This brought my 26 year old PS1 into the new century!

Posted by Nathan Mitchell on Dec 19th 2023

If I could have told my 11-year old self that this one day would allow me to have a built-in menu with copies of games I own so I could play from the comfort of my couch, I would have told you that is a dream from another life. The install was straight forward, everything was included and it booted up perfectly on the first try. After hours of play, it has never failed me! Some solder skill is needed. Highly recommend doing a continuity test after you solder for peace of mind.

    Level up your PlayStation experience

Posted by James D on Nov 26th 2023

Xstation works perfectly and it’s great. I’ve done a few of these after digging through piles of old PlayStations at local gaming shops. Make sure the PlayStation works before installing this. Once that pcb is installed it’s nearly impossible to get out of there without tearing up some vias. I’ve made this mistake before and speak from experience here. What I thought was a bad disc drive was a non functional PlayStation. After removal, I was able to patch the via to the ribbon cable connector but it was a major pain in the ass. I recommend watching the Voultar install video before buying to make sure you can handle the job or have Stoneage Gamer install for you. PS with an Xstation sells for $300 so the SAG install is still a good deal.

    Best PS1 ODE!

Posted by Petar on Nov 23rd 2023

Not so easy to install, but after that it solves all your laser skipping issues. No more FMV skipping and a little bit more fast loading times! Great product for retro enthusiasts :)

    XStation

This is my favorite ODE of any system I have. It works fantastically every time I have installed one. It is very simple to install as long as you have a good iron/tip and flux. Be sure to get some electronic probes or dental picks to lift the legs on IC-701. Also a good multimeter is advised in case it boots to the memory card screen. There is a pin out online to check the points for continuity should you have an issue. You then just do a simple reflow to the points of concern, or to remove bridging of the solder points. I have done this installation with and without applying heat to the pad. I do not recommend attempting it without heat, however it has worked just fine the times I have done it.
